2024 – 4 Classroom and Teachers’ Room Building, 5 Toilets and Hand-washing Facilities, Bore for Fresh Water and Playground
Camalai Parallel School was a shack built by the local villagers for their youngest children who were too small to walk to the nearest primary school. There were 92 children using this building.
In November 2024, His Excellency Dr Jose Ramos Horta, officially opened a new 4 classroom and teachers’ room school building which was built entirely with funding from Spend it Well’s donors. We also installed a bore for fresh water, built 5 toilets and hand-washing facilities and gave each of the children a backpack filled with stationery and toiletries at the opening ceremony. After the formalities, we had a great time playing with the kids with the soccer balls, skipping ropes and frisbees which we took with us.
The number of children at Camalai school has already increased from 92 to 140.
