Baruana School, Atauro Island
Baruana School is on remote Atauro Island, 30 kilometres off the coast of Timor-Leste. Its’ 72 children were being taught in tiny classrooms, covered in mould caused by the water running under the buildings. With the funding provided by three Australians, we built a new 3 classroom building and 5 toilets in 2026. We also re-routed the water flow to solve the mould issue and renovated the old school building. The school buildings were furnished with desks and chairs produced by a local NGO Caltech from plastic waste and donated by =DreamsAsia
On May 22, 2026 we officially inaugurated the school in a very happy ceremony with the children and the local community. Another Australian woman provided backpacks filled with stationery to all the children.
