OUR SCHOLARSHIPS

Our donors are now funding eight scholarships – for seven girls and young women and one boy.

They all show great possibility and ambition, but would have had to leave school because of financial pressures without external support.

One young woman is one of 10 children – her father is a farmer and all her siblings are married with children and live under the same roof. She had managed to complete 3 of 4 years of a teaching degree but was about to have to leave university las year without finishing.  A donor paid US$150 a month to allow her to complete her degree last year and study English.  She’s excelled at the English and the donor is continuing to support her ongoing lessons now she has graduated.

Another 12 year old girl finished primary school last year.  She is intelligent and works hard, but her parents weren’t going to be able to afford to send her to high school.  A donor is paying US$120 a month (A$2,200 a year) to allow her to attend high school and work towards her dream of being a doctor.

Our very first scholarship student in 2023 has a single mother and was going to have to leave school in year 9.  A scholarship of US$150 a month (A$2,800 a year) has allowed her to stay at school.  She sat an exam and was accepted into an excellent selective school where she is finishing high school.  She has also been studying English for two years.

Our scholarship program is managed by a young professional Timorese woman who volunteers her time.  She helps the students open bank accounts and teaches them about budgeting, financial management as well as mentoring them about their futures.

Funding for these scholarships is provided by a number of individuals and families.
