Omelai School, Bobonaro District

Omelai school’s new school building with 3 classrooms and a kitchen,  5 toilets and hand-washing facilities were officially opened by Her Excellency Dulce de Jesus Soares, Timor-Leste’s Minister of Education on September 25, 2023.

It took the Spend it Well team and a small group of adventurous donors 3.5 hours to travel the 74km from Balibo to Omelai (7 hours from Dili).  Every minute was worth it though to see the fabulous new school on the edge of the mountain and to celebrate with the beautiful children who will use it.

This project cost US$66,000 and East Timor Roofing donated their high quality roofing steel, trusses, guttering and water tank.

As well as giving Omelai’s 130 children proper classrooms and toilets, it also means another 42 pre-school aged children will have a place to learn.

Special thank you to the Raise it up Party team who raised over half of the money to build this school.
