Maupitine Pre-School, Lautem District

2025 - 2 classrooms and verandah, 5 toilets and handwashing facilities and renovation of existing building. Project cost US$52,000

Maupitine Pre-School is in one of the most economically disadvantaged areas of Lautem District, in the remote far east of Timor-Leste, with many of the children’s parents living below the poverty line. The pre-school adopted the mother tongue learning language language program ten years ago and has been extremely successful, with excellent teachers and engaged parents and students. Student numbers have grown as a result and 84 children were being taught in a 2 classroom building with one toilet. There were many more children on a waiting list.

With a donation from a Melbourne family, Spend it Well renovated the existing building, built a new 2 classroom building with a verandah and built 5 toilets with hand-washing facilities. The cost for this project was US$52,000.
