Completed 2011 – US$35,000 3 Classroom and Teachers’ Room Semi-Permanent School Building and Toilets

Maucale is a small village 3 1/2 hours from Dili. The schools’ 258 students were crammed into 2 buildings: a 3 classroom building which was unusable in the wet season and a risk of collapse and another building with 3 tiny classrooms.  Many children couldn’t be taught at all during the wet season.

In 2011 Spend it Well, in partnership with the Office of Kirsty Sword Gusmão, built a new 3 classroom and teachers’ room semi permanent school building in Maucale.  The bulk of the funds for this project came from 2 intrepid explorers, Julian and Vivien who drove from France to Mongolia in a tiny car as part of the Mongol Rally. They travelled 10,000 miles, crossed 3 deserts, 5 mountain ranges and innumerable borders to raise the money to help Maucale’s children.
