Maumeta School, Atauro Island

Maumeta School, Atauro Island

2021 – US$65,000 4 Classrooms, Toilet Repair, Hand-Washing Facilities, Water Connection and School Furniture

Maumeta School is a primary/junior high school with 604 students on Atauro island, a remote island a 3 hour ferry ride from Dili.

The school’s existing buildings were massively overcrowded, even with two shifts running each day.  None of the toilets were operating and the school had no running water. The school also had insufficient furniture, even for the existing classrooms.

Spend it Well built a new four classroom building and repaired the toilets at a cost of  US$65,000.  We also worked with Rotary Donations in Kind to bring a container load of second hand (but excellent quality) school furniture from Australian schools which would otherwise have been landfilled.  This project was finished in 2021.
