Our builder Julie and his team are doing a great job.  Windows are in on the school building and the toilet block is well underway as well.  Check out the Timorese scaffolding!

Belola School is Underway

Happy to say that Belola Prep to Year 2 School is underway! Together with Balibo House Trust and Rotary, Spend it Well’s donors are building a 3 classroom school with 5 toilets for US$53,000 which will be built in 3 months. Photos are of the school blessing and ceremony laying the first stone.

Belola Village’s Children

Not only do Belola Village’s children have to walk 5km each way to the nearest school, but they have to carry 5 litres of water with them – as the school has no water.  This walk is too hard and too dangerous for many of the children who should be going to school – not to mention those of pre-school age.  This has been the case since the Indonesia militia destroyed the school in 1999.  Estimates are that a Prep to Year 2 school at Belola will change this for situation for 100 – 150 children.

Spend it Well Back Building Schools!

Spend it Well is back doing what we love best – building schools! We’re working with the Balibo House Trust and Rotary to build a new Prep – Year 2 school in a small village outside Balibo. Children too small to walk the 10km round trip over hills into Balibo will now be able to go to school. And children currently doing this hour long walk twice a day will be able to go to school in their own village.  We have broken ground on this project already – more photos and details to follow soon.
