Belola School is Finished!
I’m delighted to be able to say that Belola School with its 3 classrooms, kitchen and 5 toilets is finished – on time and on budget. This means the 150 children from Prep to Year 2 of Belola village who were walking 5km to and from school each day (while carrying a 5 litre container of water) – or in many cases not going at all, now have a school. I can’t wait to see the school with the children in it. This school is the result of a great collaboration between Belola House Trust, Rotary and Spend it Well’s donors. A huge thank you to all of our donors who contributed to make this possible. Kris

Casa Vida’s Mini Van – Donated by Spend it Well
Remember the mini-van that Spend it Well’s donors bought for Casa Vida in Dili? Here it is, with Nandy behind the wheel. This great van has been safely driving around the sexually-abused girls whose lives Casa Vida are re-building for a year now. It takes the girls safely to and from school, training programs and vocational employment. Looks great!

Belola School is 75% Complete
Our builder Julio and his team are doing a great job at Belola. The school building and toilet block are over 75% finished and looking fantastic. Rotary are about to ship up not only furniture for the school but also a playground which will be amazing. Can’t wait to see some kids in these buildings!

The oldest and the youngest in Belola Village
Nandy, who is part of the Spend it Well team, was in Belola village this week. As you can see from the photos, she spent time with the youngest and the oldest in the village. The children in the photo are some of those who’ll be attending Belola school once it’s finished. At the moment, those children can only go to school if they can walk 5km to school (with a 5 litre water container) and 5km home. When you look at the size of the children, this is clearly impossible for many of them, so they simply don’t go to school. But the good news is that this will all change when Belola school opens.

Belola School Taking Shape
Less than 3 months after we started, Belola School is coming together well and for the budgeted amount of US$53,000. We’re busy planning our next two projects. One will be another school project, the other something different. More details to come shortly!
