Maleha’a school is in a small village in a beautiful area about 2 hours’ drive from Dili. The 65 children were being taught in two buildings – one of which was a shack which was unusable in wet weather and the other was in danger of falling down. There was one terrible toilet.
We built a new 4 classroom and teachers’ room building, 5 toilets and a kitchen to make school lunches as well as putting in a bore to provide fresh water. We also established a school garden which will be run by our gardener. The establishment and ongoing operation of the garden is being funded by Salamanca Rotary Club
The total cost of this project was US$68,000 (approximately A$105,000).
