Ostico, East Timor
In 2009, Spend It Well rehabilitated a school in Ostico, a tiny village 3 hours from East Timor's capital, Dili. The school looked uninhabitable but was used by 350 children every day in two shifts. There was no running water, nor flushable toilets. Spend It Well has transformed the school to the delight of local children and their families.
Spend It Well rebuilt the main building, built a totally new two classroom building, insulated and ventilated a third building and renovated and supplied water to the toilets. The work was completed in 4 months by a local builder who used local labour and, wherever possible, local materials. Spend It Well donors attended the official opening of the new school in July 2009.
