Buruma is a small village 15 minutes from Baucau. There was a small primary school there, but no classrooms available for the 43 pre-school aged children.

East Timor Trading is a company owned by the Awan family which believes passionately in the need to educate Timor’s children.  They provided the entire US$45,000 needed to build a new two classroom building for Buruma’s preschool children during 2024 and 2025.

This is the third preschool East Timor Trading has built with Spend it Well.  It has been re-named Pre-Escolar Avo Ana Irena Olimpia de Almeida Buruma in honour of the family matriach.   East Timor Trading also provided much needed furniture and supplies for the preschool.

The preschool was opened by Timor-Leste’s President, His Excellency Dr Jose Ramos Horta and Timor Leste’s Minister of Education, Her Excellency  Dulce de Jesus Soares on March 24, 2025.
