{"id":520,"date":"2011-06-15T11:18:47","date_gmt":"2011-06-15T11:18:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spenditwell.com\/updates\/?p=520"},"modified":"2011-06-15T11:18:47","modified_gmt":"2011-06-15T11:18:47","slug":"road-trip-to-baucau-with-kirsty-sword-gusmao-and-max-stahl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spenditwell.com\/updates\/?p=520","title":{"rendered":"Road trip to Baucau with Kirsty Sword Gusmao and Max Stahl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Travelling around East Timor with Kirsty Sword Gusmao and Max Stahl makes you feel like you&#8217;re hanging out with royalty.\u00a0 Kirsty is instantly recognised by everyone, but her attention is rivalled when people realise the man in the jeans and cap is Max Stahl, the journalist who filmed the Santa Cruz graveyard massacre, hid the tape in a hole next to a gravestone\u00a0and after\u00a0 being interrogated by the Indonesians,\u00a0went back in the dead of night to retrieve it and with the film maker Peter Gordon and Kirsty, distributed it around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Max and\u00a0Peter\u00a0 accompanied Kirsty and her and Xanana&#8217;s 3 boys to Maucale school where Spend it Well is constructing a new school building.\u00a0 They filmed a ceremony at the school and in various settings around Baucau, retracing the steps they all trod in the 1990s when they were clandestinely working\u00a0 to obtain independence for East Timor.<\/p>\n<p>There was a wonderful ceremony at the school and it was fabulous to see the new building coming along so well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spenditwell.com\/updates\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/max-and-conor-small-file.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-523\" title=\"max and conor -
