6 months ago the 603 children at Maumeta School on Atauro Island were being taught in 3 buildings, 2 of which were badly damaged. \u00a0There was also not enough desks and chairs for the classrooms they did have.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Last week, the school\u2019s new 4 classroom building was finished. \u00a0The 12 toilets, all of which were previously unusable, have also been renovated and are now fully operational. \u00a0This work was possible because of the money donated by Spend it Well donors which made up the total USD65,000 (AUD97,000) construction cost.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Both Simon and Agostinho have visited the school since the work was finished last week and we are extremely happy with the quality and execution of this project which – as you can see from the photos below – looks fantastic.<\/div>\n

This week Agostinho also delivered to the school (via ferry and truck) chairs and tables which were collected from Melbourne primary schools (and were otherwise going to landfill) by Rotary Donation in Kind and shipped to Timor. \u00a0Photos of the furniture landing on Atauro Island and being transported to the school are below.<\/div>\n
